Make Your Own Woven Shades
Different materials can be used to make woven shades. More often they are made of bamboo and can be very pricey, especially, if you are looking at a fairly large size window. However, if you are crafty enough, you can make these shades on your own. The American Bamboo Society can provide information where bamboo can be purchased. Choose bamboo pieces that are no younger than three years and no older than five years to ensure the best quality. If you buy fresh bamboo, the oils have to removed first to harden it. It is usually done by heating it and wiping the oil off. Drying it afterwards will prevent it from molding. Then you can use natural fibers, such as wool, to tie the bamboo pieces together.
